Nona (Graham) Standerfer
July 23, 1932--October 22, 2022 (age 90)
Nona Standerfer died Oct. 22, 2022, at Chaplaincy Hospice House in Kennewick, Washington, at the age of 90. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Pendleton Pioneer Chapel, FolsomBishop 131 Byers Ave., Pendleton, Oregon. A lunch will be held at Bethel Assembly of God Church, 1109 Airport Road, following the service; please feel free to bring a salad or dessert of your choice. The family is providing sandwiches.
Born on July 23, 1932, in Fossil, Oregon, in her grandmother's home to Forest and Josie Graham. The family lived in Kinzua, Oregon. Nona married Owen H. Leathers Jr. in Goldendale, Washington, in 1950. The family eventually settled at Reed's Mill South of Heppner where they ran a logging operation. After Jr.'s death, Nona moved to Pendleton, Oregon, when she became a beautician at Phagans Beauty School. On July 5, 1964, she married John C. "Jay" Standerfer at Reno, Nevada. They lived in Long Beach, Washington, where they owned and operataed a motel and trailer park until 1970. They moved to Pendleton where she has lived for the past 52 years.
She worked at the Umatilla County Courthouse, Webb's Cold Storage and Mid Columbia Bus Co., Inc. She loved her family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a firm believer in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She enjoyed sewing for the family, gardening and road trips.
She is survived by her son, Dan Leathers of Dixie, Washington; daughters, Cindy Flatt of Walla Walla, Washington, Marci Buschke of Pendleton, Oregon and Jennifer Maarhuis of Prosser, Washington; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Forest and Josie Stephens Graham; brothers, Richard "Dick" Graham, Barbara Mortimore, and Roger Graham; and granddaughter Steffanie Flatt.
