Obituary

David Alan Lindberg
June 8, 1932--July 16, 2024

David Alan Lindberg, died at his home on July 16. He had just celebrated his 92nd birthday. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's Mission on September 28 at 4 p.m., with a reception to follow at The Saddle in Pendleton.

Dave was proud of his French Canadian and Swedish heritage and was a faithful son to Evelyn Marie Sommerville and Arthur William Lindberg. He adored his older sister Marilyn Lindberg Painter and fondly recalled their childhood on the family farm north of Pendleton.

Dave and his Lincoln Elementary School love, Virginia Milligan, became lifelong partners and made family life their focus. They provided happy adventures and everlasting support to their children David Jon Lindberg, Shari Dallas, and Kristin Lindberg. Dave was loved deeply by grandchildren Kari Dallas Spratling and Andy Spratling, Greggory Dallas and Tim Trainor, Dave Dallas and Scott Vignos, Joey and Yandi Dallas, and Lindsay and Jake Markgraf. He celebrated his growing family, with the addition of great-grandchildren Charlie and Dolly Spratling and Gabe, Grayson, Briar, and Mercer Markgraf. His life was enriched by a strong connection to extended family and dear friends.

Dave was proud of his work as a wheat farmer, starting with his master's program at WSU in Plant Genetics and continuing through retirement. He was also an adventurous gardener, nurturing everything from vegetables and herbs to kiwis and Meyer lemons. Dave was proud of the Pendleton community, serving from Rotary to Catholic Outreach to the Umatilla County planning commission--wherever he felt he could have an impact--and tirelessly boosting Pendleton High sports. He was proud of the state of Oregon, exploring all corners with his family, including on 10-Year-Getaways with each grandchild.

Dave and Virginia shared a love of world travel, great wine, and gourmet meals. They were diehard fans of the Portland Opera, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and the WSU Cougars. They taught their family where to hunt for morels, how to catch (and eat) a limit of rainbow trout, how to cleanly hoe a weed, and when to take solace in a good book. Dave's family will miss his clever puns and his mischievous grin, especially when putting a curse on a too-big-for-their-britches pro golfer. His family is grateful to the kind staff at The Saddle, where Dave was a frequent diner in recent years.

Contributions in Dave's memory may be given to the Pendleton Linebackers Club, PO Box 184, Pendleton.
