Obituary
Jose E. 'Joe' Quintero
Pendleton
Dec. 25, 1949 — Aug. 25, 2021
Jose (Joe) Quintero was born on Dec. 25, 1949, in Tepehuanes, Durango, Mexico, and raised in Mexico City by his older sister and her family, where he attended school and graduated with a degree in business from the local university.
In the early 1970s Jose moved to California for employment and made his way up to Oregon, where he met his future wife, Elaine (Arellano) Quintero, and married in January 1975, eventually moving to Pendleton, Oregon, and making it their home of many years with their four children.
While living in Pendleton, Jose worked in the manufacturing industry for many years (Fleetwood) while working a second job in the evenings washing dishes at the Red Lion, all while taking classes at BMCC in business management. Jose started his own company, Northwest General Services, which he owned and operated as well as being an international representative for The Red Book until his passing.
Some of Jose’s most memorable accomplishments were spending endless hours studying to gain his U.S. citizenship in the early 1980s, and winning the Oregon Republican Businessman of the Year award.
He was an avid hunter, sports fan (San Francisco 49ers), member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Pendleton, and Lions Club volunteer. Jose was liked by many people in his community; he had many friends and knew no strangers. When you saw him, you were always greeted with a smile and a handshake, followed by one of his many jokes.
Family was very important to Jose and he loved spending time with them and his pets.
Jose is preceded in death by his parents, and two siblings.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Quintero; four children: Brian Arellano, Darlene (Scott) McAllister, Lori (Edgar) Quintero and Lydia (Jeremy) Cook; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
