Arlene M. Malcom died peacefully at her home on Thursday June 8, 2023.
Arlene was born July 13, 1934, in Tacoma Washington to Richard L. Kenedy and Julia (Sabol) Kenedy. She lived her early years as a Navy brat, living all over the US before moving back to the Pacific Northwest. Back in Tacoma, she graduated from Lincoln High School. She then went on to graduate from Washington State University with a degree in Sociology. She was a lifelong fan of the Cougars.
While at WSU, she met Bruce Malcom on a blind date. They married in 1956 after 4 months of dating. Arlene and Bruce enjoyed an incredible loving marriage of 38 years. They were world travelers, who experienced life to the fullest. Bruce worked in the lumber industry and over the years they lived throughout the Pacific Northwest in Eatonville, Sutherland, Cottage Grove, Springfield, Heppner, and for the last 50 years in Pendleton.
Arlene volunteered at the gift shop at St. Anthony’s Hospital for over 40 years. She served on the board at St. Mary’s Outreach and volunteered there for many years. She loved bridge and played right up to her passing. She loved to entertain and socialize with friends. Arlene loved her church and was a member at St. Mary’s Church and St. Andrews Church in Mission. Above all, Arlene loved her family.
She is survived by her children, Steven (Patricia) Malcom, Julie Malcom Carey, Jim (Julie) Malcom, all of Pendleton. Her grandchildren, Shannon & Chris Peters, Kim Malcom, Mike (Brooke) Christy, Isaac (Mary Kate) Henslee, Alexis (Travis) Copeland, Johnny Malcom, and Charley Malcom Carey. Her great grandchildren, Brody & Bailey Peters and Finley, Weston, Janice, and Callum Christy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Julia Kenedy, her beloved husband Bruce Malcom, her daughter Laurie Malcom, and grandson Jack Malcom Carey.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023, at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Mission at 12:30 pm with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 1:00. The burial will be in Olney Cemetery directly following the Mass.
