DESERT HOT SPRINGS, Calif. - a graveside funeral service for Richard Ray Kinne will be held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 12 at Olney Cemetery in Pendleton.

Mr. Kinne, 74, of Desert Hot Springs, Calif., died Sunday, July 27, 2003.

He was born Aug. 19, 1928, at Yakima. When he was five, he moved with his family to Heppner, and when he was in the sixth grade, moved with his family to Pendleton, where he attended Lincoln School, Pendleton Junior High School, and graduated from Pendleton High School in 1947. An avid sports fan, he played basketball, football and softball all three years he was in high school.

He enlisted in the armed services and served during the Korean War as a tank commander. He returned to Pendleton and, in 1952, married Mary Lucille Toomay. He served with the Pendleton police for approximately nine years before moving his family to Southern California in 1961.

He was employed at North American Aviation in California, and had been an employee at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft for 25 years when he retired.

After retirement, the Kinnes moved to Desert Hot Springs where they had been residents the last 12 years.

Mr. Kinne was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Kinne of Desert Hot Springs; his son, Jock Kinne of Wenatchee, Wash.; daughters, Cheryl Bench of Pendleton, and Lisa Bodeman of Cyprus, Texas; and four grandchildren
