Sherdon Dietz
July 15, 1941--May 17, 2023 (age 81)

Sherdon George Dietz age 81 of Pendleton, OR died at home on May 17th, 2023. Sherdon was born July 15th, 1941 in Bowdon, ND to George and Phyllis Dietz. In 1948 the family moved from North Dakota to Lodi, CA. Then in 1951 they moved to Pendleton where Sherdon spent the rest of his life.

Sherdon graduated from Pendleton High School in 1959. In the early 1960s Sherdon married Sandy Dietz. They had a son Kelly Dietz and later divorced. In 1983 he married Hazel Moore and became a father again to Robin Fitzmorris and Toby Moore. Sherdon and Hazel spent 40 years together filled with lots of love and many good times. Sherdon loved his children and enjoyed watching Kelly and Toby in sports throughout the years. From a young age, Sherdon had a passion for anything with a motor. He went on to build, race and show many different kinds of cars. He began racing with stock cars and ended his racing career with sprint cars. He raced on local tracks and also enjoyed traveling to races throughout the Pacific Northwest and Canada. In his later years he particularly enjoyed going to car shows with his friends. His three favorite cars were "Pearl", the '35 and his '56. Sherdon was an avid motorcycle rider. He especially loved his Harley. As a young man he worked at Harris Pine driving hysters. This helped in his adventures in backwards drag racing. He then worked for Beneficial Finance, Kirby, Winns Petroleum Products, Fleetwood. He then began his 25 year career with Lorillard Tobacco Co which led him and his partners Bob and Ron to open 7 Cigarette Stores in Oregon, Washington and Idaho.

Sherdon is survived by his wife Hazel and children; Kelly (Chris) Dietz of Pendleton, Robin (Mike) Fitzmorris of Pendleton and Toby (Wendy) Moore of Tucson, AZ. Grandchildren Casey (Kahle) Dietz, Maggie Dietz, Austin, Sydney and Jackson Moore and Gabrielle Fitzmorris and great granddaughter Elizabeth Dietz. Brother-Gary (Cheryl) Dietz of Milton Freewater,Oregon.

A celebration of Life will be held June 3rd from 2-5 at the Pendleton Eagles Lodge.
