MILTON-FREEWATER - Wallace J. "Butch" Harrison, 83, died Sunday at his home in Milton Freewater. Viewing is scheduled at Bishop Funeral Chapel from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at Bishop Funeral Chapel in Pendleton with the Rev. David Paine officiating. Interment will follow at Olney Cemetery.

Mr. Harrison was born in Pilot Rock to James and Ruth Harrison. He graduated from Pilot Rock High School in 1942, where he was an outstanding athlete who competed in football, basketball, baseball and tennis.

He attended the University of Oregon briefly, but because of World War II left college and enlisted in the United States Navy. Mr. Harrison was honorably discharged in 1946 and returned to Pilot Rock, where he married Helen Doreen Miller, whom he had met on leave a year earlier.

The Harrisons lived in Pilot Rock less than a year, then moved to Pendleton where Mr. Harrison began a 41-year career in farm machinery sales.

After his retirement the Harrisons moved to Milton-Freewater in 1996.

Mr. Harrison's hobbies included golf, snowmobiling in the Blue Mountains, fishing and flying. He received his pilot's license in 1954 on the GI Bill and flew aircraft until the 1970s.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Robert Kay Harrison.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, at their home in Milton-Freewater; son Terry Harrison of Milton-Freewater; daughter Linda Herndon of Canby; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
