Clayton Lee Severin
August 28, 1950--July 24, 2022 (age 71)
Clayton Lee Severin was born in Leigh, Nebraska on August 28, 1950, the fourth of five children to Archibald and Martha Severin. At 4 years old, the family moved to Milton-Freewater, Oregon where he graduated from McLaughlin-Union High School in 1969. After graduation, Clayton moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon to attend Oregon Technical Institute where he played football and obtained his Associates Degree in Engineering. After college, Clayton worked 4 years in construction for George Lund until he was encouraged to pursue a career as a Building Inspector. This led him to living in Tacoma, Washington and Great Falls, Montana early in his career until he was transferred to Pendleton, Oregon where he continued working until his retirement in 2007.
Clayton first became a father when his son Christopher was born in 1972 and daughter Angela was born in 1974. Clayton married Jean Mathwich in Athena, Oregon on January 30, 1982. Their son Clayton John (CJ) was born in 1983 and son Joshua in 1986. Clayton was an avid hunter who also enjoyed fishing, camping with family and spending time in the mountains but time with his grandchildren brought him the most joy.
Clayton was preceded in death by his parents Archibald and Martha Severin, brother Leon Severin and sister Gailya Roudebush. He is survived by his wife Jean, children Christopher (Lisa) Severin, Angela (Stan) Boatman, CJ (Allison) Severin, Josh (Shelby) Severin, 6 grandchildren: Derek, Zack, Melanie, Katelyn, Tucker and Tanner and sisters Jean Ponti and Norene Mikkelson.
Clayton will be greatly missed by his family and all that knew him. There will be a Rosary held at Pendleton Pioneer Chapel at 7 pm on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 and a graveside service at 10 am Thursday, August 4, 2022 followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:30 pm in the Roy Raley Room at the Pendleton Round-Up Grounds. All friends and family are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Clayton's name to Pendleton City Club Youth Sports PO Box 522 Pendleton, OR 97801.
